Project Space Mural 2015 (Day Two)

Aloha Friends!

Day two of mural painting is pau! This is by far the biggest wall I've ever done! I have been working all day so I'm not even sure what the video will look like. All I know is the lighting in here makes some of the most beautiful shadows I have ever seen. I am really looking forward to editing the final project. Onward to day three!

Love/PRIDE Mural at Ong King Hawaii

Aloha Friends,

This mural took place over three days and was commissioned for Ong King's June 2015 Pride celebration. I am so very honored to be invited to paint this mural because gay pride and LGBTIQ+ rights are something I feel very passionately about. Love is love. Period. Painting this mural allows me to be an ally and an artist at the same time!

ONG KING Arts Center's mission is to make a sustainable art community. It is a space for creative risk taking, and artistic mastery located in downtown chinatown, Honolulu, Hawaii.

A sustainable art community, exits in mutual support and inspiration of all involved. It depends upon the innovation of the art, the artist, and its positive effect on the community. The ability of the artist to take a chance on learning, or discovering something new, creates a constant cycle of teaching and learning. Every moment at Ong King is a stop in the cycle. Performances reveal work, classes provide guidance, and the space is electrified with growth. Here one can both become humble and try something new, and/or attain new levels of artistic mastery through practice and criticism.

Kroc Center Spring Art Night "Alive" with live painting!

Aloha Friends,

This past week I was invited again by the Kapolei Kroc Center to do some live painting for their Spring Art Night. I am always very happy to do these live paintings since it gives me a chance to get out of the studio and interact with the community. This Art Night's theme was "Alive" and featured adult and youth artworks from the completed spring classes. They also had some lovely live music including the Kroc Center's youth band! I know I've said this before but if you haven't been to the Kroc Center yet, go. It's super fun and the staff are all lovely people.

Below are a few photos of me working plus the final timelapse video! Thanks for looking! I tried to start in the air and end in the ocean with my "Alive" theme. I am going to be at the next Art Night (fingers crossed) so if you have any suggestions of imagery please let me know! Mahalo!

Kroc Center Art Night 2014

Aloha Friends,

I recently was invited to do a little live painting at the Oahu Kroc Center. The theme for the night was "blessed,' and focused on showcasing local art, music and student work from the Kroc Center's most recent art classes for youth and adults. If you haven't been to the Kroc Center I highly recommend it, great facilities and great people. Below are a few photos of me working and the final time lapse video.

"Sea Birds" (Large Wall Time Lapse Video)

This project was done as a part of the Salem Art Association's Annual Project Space.

It is titled "Sea Birds" because it is the first in a series. This time lapse mural series is about my experience living and working in Hawaii and Oregon. I travel frequently and am fortunate enough to always be near an ocean. My deep love of and connection to the sea and the sky promoted and influenced the imagery in these videos.

Project Space Mural 2014 (Day Eight)

Aloha Friends!

Just started working on the final piece for the big wall. This will be the final painting that everyone will see at the opening so I'll be spending a little more time to finish it up. I was in the studio for a while yesterday and got a lot done! Not bad on only a few hours of sleep!

Project Space Mural 2014 (Day Seven)

Aloha Friends!

The wall is really starting to show some history today! I love seeing the various layers of paint and different bits of the previous images show through day by day.

Today will most likely be the last full scene change. Tomorrow will be the beginning of the final image, which I am going to take a few days to compete and hopefully really refine. I'll also be finishing the small wall this week and will be posting updates as they happen. I will also be wrapping up the time lapse video just in time for the August 6th opening.
