Project Space Mural 2015 (Day Three)

Aloha Friends!

Day three was another long day and I am starting to feel a little worn out. Luckily for me I had some lovely people stop by and visit which makes the day all the more enjoyable and I don't end up just talking to myself. I am happy to say I visited Japan in today's mural and it brought back all kinds of beautiful memories. Tomorrow my imagery will be heading to England and I am very excited to see what happens. Thanks for looking! Be sure to check back soon for the final video!

The Recycled Rain Project - upcoming show!

Aloha Friends!

I am very pleased that I will again be included in the Recycled Rain Project at the Olymic Mills Gallery in Portland Oregon! This annual art show in focuses on water issues and encourages artists to become resourceful with their ideas and materials. It is always a fabulous show with incredible artists! I feel very fortunate to be included. Check out my pieces below and mahalo for looking!

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

The Recycled Rain Project was founded to help bring awareness to local artists and the various water issues facing both our state and other’s abroad.

The Fourth Annual Recycled Rain Project opens May 9th 2015 at the Olympic Mills Gallery Space in Portland, Oregon.  All juried artists will create original works with collected rainwater. While the subject matter in the paintings is varied, the over all concept is to bring to light simple ways that we can rethink the way we use water.

As part of the exhibit we will also highlight everyday things that individuals can do to make a difference. A portion of the sale of any works are donated to a water-based charity. We hope to do our small part to start a greater movement to help other’s realize what a precious commodity we have and ways that individuals can help make a difference here and abroad.

For RR 2013  we were able to add a children’s component to RR with the addition of RAINDROPS – a children’s gallery.  Now in our third year we want  to continue help educate children on the environment and bring them closer to art.

We are currently seeking classroom partners. Please contact sara@therecycedrainproject.org for more information regarding a classroom collaboration.

Here are the pieces I will be including in this year's show (Don't worry, these pieces each used recycled inks and materials):

"Sea Birds" (Large Wall Time Lapse Video)

This project was done as a part of the Salem Art Association's Annual Project Space.

It is titled "Sea Birds" because it is the first in a series. This time lapse mural series is about my experience living and working in Hawaii and Oregon. I travel frequently and am fortunate enough to always be near an ocean. My deep love of and connection to the sea and the sky promoted and influenced the imagery in these videos.

To see "Sea Birds II" please go here!

Project Space Mural 2014 (Day Ten)

Aloha Friends!

Wow! It has been quite the journey getting all this together in such a short time. As you may know the mural is done and the opening was a lovely success. I got to see a lot of my artist friends in Salem and meet a whole bunch of new people. Mahalo to everyone for coming!

There are the last photos of the large wall. I am still working on the time lapse video and will post that asap. You might be asking, "why is the video taking so long, don't you just have to speed things up and it's pau?" Well, I could do that, but there are moments were I am moving a ladder or backing up to look at the work or speaking with someone and if I just speed things up it makes the flow of the video feel very jerky. So I am taking some time to cut those bits out so the video is smoother and a bit shorter. Mahalo for everyone's patience. Till then please enjoy the final photos!

Project Space Mural 2014 (Day Eight)

Aloha Friends!

Just started working on the final piece for the big wall. This will be the final painting that everyone will see at the opening so I'll be spending a little more time to finish it up. I was in the studio for a while yesterday and got a lot done! Not bad on only a few hours of sleep!

Day Eight:

Project Space Mural 2014 (Day Four)

Aloha Friends!

Whew! Today was a challenge! For a minute there I wasn't sure I was going to be able to do a complete scene change. I have family coming into town tonight so my day ended up being a bit shorter than expected. But no worries! A few eyeballs, a few clouds and one volcano later we are done with day four! Cheehoo!

Project Space Mural 2014 (Day Three)

Aloha Friends!

Today is Day Three of my epic mural project (At least it feels epic according to the pain in my feet and back, oi!) Anyway, today's image was supposed to turn into a large reef but ended up being a bit of a two plant dance. At least that's what it looks like to me. At this point I have painted a total of five complete scene changes in three days. I am calling each finished mural image a scene since they are all individual pieces that, together, will form the final time-lapse film. Three days and seventeen hours of painting so far. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings. Onward!

Day Three:

p.s. got an idea for an image? Send a suggestion my way! Mahalo!
