The Recycled Rain Project 2014

Aloha Friends!

I am pleased to say that I have been selected to be one of the artists participating in the Recycled Rain Project in Portland, OR! This will be the second year I have been involved with the Recycled Rain Project and I am stocked to be working with them again, even from a distance!

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

The Recycled Rain Project was founded to help bring awareness to local artists and the various water issues facing both our state and other’s abroad.

The Third Annual Recycled Rain Show will take place on May 10th 2014 at the Olympic Mills Gallery in Portland, Oregon. All juried artists will create original works with collected rainwater. While the subject matter in the paintings is varied, the over all concept is to bring to light simple ways that we can rethink the way we use water.

As part of the exhibit we will also highlight everyday things that individuals can do to make a difference. A portion of the sale of any works are donated to a water-based charity. We hope to do our small part to start a greater movement to help other’s realize what a precious commodity we have and ways that individuals can help make a difference here and abroad.

In our second cycle, we were able to add a children’s component to RR with the addition of RAINDROPS – a children’s gallery.  We are excited to say that we will be doing this again to help educate children on the environment and bring them closer to art!

This year we are excited to expand to add Featured Artists along with the Open Call portion of the show. These Featured artists are working artists in the Portland Area that have demonstrated a dedication to the environment as well as their profession.

Screen Print Series (throwback)

Aloha Friends!

I wanted to share with you some prints I made earlier this year, before I dove into the Hawaiian Days of the Week Print Series. I made these "starry night" series for a winter fundraiser, but have a few left over. Limited edition prints, all hand numbered and signed. I love the look of the background on the dark pieces, which are all different. These are the first prints I made since moving back to Hawaii. What a fun process! Can't wait to get back into the studio soon!

I originally made these designs to support my school, Island Pacific Academy in Kapolei, Oahu. And now I have extras! I would to love to share them with you! (visit www.sundaystingray.com) The stars in the prints above are the star formations you would see when looking at the summer sky over Oahu! Float on, float on.

Official Sunday Stingray Poster!

Aloha Friends!

I am so pleased to announce that I have official Sunday Stingray prints up and ready for sale! It's been absolutely wonderful to be able to dive right into making things and to have a printer located right around the corner! This poster is the first in a series that expresses my love for all things Hawaii and spreads some Aloha (hopefully!)

I want to take this time to talk a little bit about Sunday Stingray's motto: Float on, float on. My goal with creating Sunday Stingray is to spread a little Aloha with every print, shirt, sticker, postcard, etc. Sometimes life gets you down, things don't go as planned and it's hard to keep going. In those moments you just have to keep movin', keep hustlin', keep workin'. Just float on friend, keep floatin' on.

The photo used in the poster is one of my favorite photos that I took on Kaho'olawe last year. That's right, the "forbidden" Hawaiian island, visits  are by invitation only! I was truly blessed to be able to go there and do some work to help restore the 'aina! I think my experience on Kaho'olawe best expresses my motto: float on. You can be bombed, ruined, over run by people and goats and there will still be people who band together to help you heal and grow.

Float on Kaho'olawe, float on my friend.

Please stop on by www.sundaystingray.com to pick up your official poster (and sticker!)

Don't forget to add me on facebook for the latest up to date news! Mahalo!

Please visit the Kaho'olawe Island Reserve Commission (KIRC) website: http://kahoolawe.hawaii.gov/ if you want to learn more about this amazing island (and maybe do some volunteering!).

Here are some more fun Kaho'olawe photos of my trip if you are interested:

Totes Bag Design Ideas! Plus Giveaway Coming Soon!

Aloha Friends!

I have been working on some projects for work as a well as a few side freelance projects so life has been very busy (posts coming soon!)! As Kurt Vonnegut and the Bokonons would say "busy, busy, busy!" But still, through all the goings on I have been steadily working on some new ideas for Sunday Stingray. There are some amazing places around town to sell and showcase work by local crafters and artists and I want to be a part of it. I am sharing with you not my completed design but a sneak peek of some of the things I will be screening soon. I have a few tote bags and am going to jump on screening this next weekend, check back for a Sunday Stingray Give-away!

Check it out and tell me what you think!

I am enamored with all things Hawaii and Oregon so I'm sure my designs will show my love and support for these two amazing places. If you have a suggestion or feedback let me know your thoughts! Feel free to leave a comment below! I am always up for an artsy discussion!

Stay Positive or Stay Silent!

Aloha Friends!

I have two new prints available here for purchase. "Stay Positive or Stay Silent" I feel is a good motto nowadays. It's too easy to say something, in person or on the internet, that we really don't mean or say in the heat of the moment. It's hard to stay optimistic but we do what we can, (living in Hawaii certainly helps!) So here is the first in a series of Motiovational(ish) posters.

Each poster is full color printed on archive paper, 12" x 8" unframed (Framing options coming soon!)

Please visit: http://sundaystingray.bigcartel.com/ to check it out!
