"Stone Diamond" Detail

This statewide, juried triennial exhibition features artists from the islands of O‘ahu, Maui, Kaua‘i and Hawai‘i along with portrait subjects who live and work in the state and have a significant connection to the artist. The 2012 Challenge comprises 59 works from 57 individual artists. Those familiar with the history of this exhibition look forward to each new incarnation, anticipating a group of new faces who represent the remarkable people of Hawai‘i.

The artists whose works were selected for the 2012 Challenge are bonded by the desire to transpose the human likeness and interpret each sitter through paint, pastel, graphite, watercolor, stone, clay, wood or mixed media into the final result of a finished portrait.

My latest piece. Even though all my work is pretty personal I am trying to be even more honest. To really put how I feel out there. I am feeling a little vulnerable lately and it's been difficult for me to embrace the idea of not being in control. It is humbling. I also am liking the white hair/night sky textured shawl. Since I am back in Oregon I am hoping to do some new work that is a little more Oregon themed. Night sky, trees, pines, deer, clouds, etc. We'll just have to see where I go from here.

Thanks for looking.

If you happen to be in the Salem Oregon area please swing by Bush Barn Art Center and check out my new digs! I am currently the winter 2011 Salem Art Association Artist in Residence and have my own little space all to myself. (Scroll down for some photos of the space).

I am working on a new collection of drawings and paintings and will have an open house at the end of November. My official open studio hours are Tuesday and Wednesday from 11:30 to 4:30

Hope to see you there!

Here is what the SAA Website has to say about it:

"Boz Schurr, SAA’s October/November Artist-in-Residence, will be on-site and available to the public in SAA’s Studio Annex on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11:30 am-4 pm through the end of November. Please feel free to drop by during her open hours and experience the Artist-in-Residence program in action! Salem Art Association’s (SAA) Artists Services Program has revitalized its Artists-in-Residence Program. This program aims to serve professional artists by providing a flexible space for artistic development. There are three Artists in Residence (AIR) sessions per year which last six weeks. All artists including literary, visual, and performing artists may apply. The goals of the AIR program are to provide a positive and supportive environment for artists, as well as space for experimentation in order to further the development of an artist’s work. If you are interested in learning more about the Studio Annex Artist in Residence Program, please contact Kathleen Dinges at Click HERE to send email or visit our website at www.SalemArt.org."
