Today is day two of my Salem Oregon, Project Space Mural! I am very excited to see how things are starting to transition from one image to the next organically. After all is said and done there will be a time lapse video that shows the process. Check back in a few weeks to see the final product! Till then I will keep posting in-process photos and, as always, suggestions are always welcome. My theme has to do with the ocean and more specifically my movement between Oregon and Hawaii. Project Space is a dynamic (June to September 2014) contemporary art opportunity. Taking place at Liberty Plaza in downtown Salem, Project Space offers juried exhibits by regional artists, studio space, in addition to performances and other events that encourage community dialogue.
Project Space is designed to bring out the experimental, the creative, the unexpected, the large, the small, the moveable and moving; embracing new avenues of expression.
Artists working in any media, including, but not limited to painting, sculpture, video, interactive media, installation, photography, performance, theater, sound and music, movement and dance are invited to apply to participate in the program. Approaches are fantastical, practical, high-tech, low-tech, humorous and serious. Exhibits rotate several times over the two-to-three month period, starting in June and ending in August. I am very excited to announce that I'll once again be involved with Salem, Oregon's annual Project Space (Hosted by the Salem Art Association). The first time I worked with Project Space was in 2012 and I am happy to be asked back. I have been working on some ideas for a new series of murals that double as time lapse videos. I did some time lapse painting in 2010 with the Honolulu Museum of Art as their artist in residence and am excited to try an even larger scale project in 2014!

I have finally completed my piece for The Recycled Rain Project which opens in one week, May 10th in Portland, Oregon! After some trials and errors I have completed my piece and she is in the mail!
I have been working on building back up a cohesive portfolio (which is difficult to do when you move from an island, then back to the island...) So here is the first drawing I've completed which will hopefully be the first in a series about Hawaii and more specifically the ocean and the earth between my two homes (Oregon and Oahu).

The last few weeks have been super busy! I am lucky enough to be working with some super cool ladies for this year's Vagina Monologues! I haven't done any theater in a while so it feels good to get back on stage. The show opens this week so if you are around, want to watch some amazing acting and contribute to a good cause come by and check us out! Better buys tickets soon, they are going quick! V-Day Honolulu 2014 is holding an open audition for benefit readings of Eve Ensler's award-winning play The Vagina Monologues on April 10-13, 2014. Anyone who identifies as a woman is welcome to audition and no theatre experience is necessary. Scripts will be provided at the audition. Behind-the-scenes volunteer positions available for people who do not wish to be on stage or do not identify as a woman.
The Vagina Monologues, which was first performed off-Broadway dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage, and excitement buried in women's experiences. This production is part of the global movement, V-Day, whose mission is to end violence against women. V-Day Honolulu 2014 is excited to present these works while raising funds to help end violence against women on O'ahu. Email madeshaz@gmail.com
